How is your library celebrating International Literacy Day?

"Today one in five adults is still not literate and about two-thirds of them are women while 67.4 million children are out of school" -UNESCO

Do you know that 796 million people in the world today cannot read or write? And most of them live in developing countries.
In honour of International Literacy Day, libraries/librarians should take a major role in organising activities to commemorate the day because we are one of the key players in literacy process.
Take action now! Consider these steps..

  • INVEST IN LITERACY: Sponsor literary programmes in your library/community. Donate books and other literacy materials. Please consider making a financial donation if you are blessed to do so.
  •  EDUCATE YOURSELF: Learn more about the issue of literacy and role of library through the internet and other medium
  • SPREAD THE WORD: Help amplify the message by sharing information on Literacy with your Facebook friends. Tell them why literacy is important to you and encourage their involvement
  • START A CAMPAIGN: Get creative by hosting an event, running a marathon or doing anything else your heart desires. Raise money for literacy programs by starting your own personalized fundraising campaign.
Let's discuss:
