Women Empowerment and its Link to Sustainable Development - YALDA Online Conference

On Saturday, March 26th at 9AM EST, YALDA will be hosting its monthly Online Conference, focusing on gender equality and empowerment.  Join us with guest speakers Katra Sambili and Yasmin Belo-Osage.



Katra Sambili is the Partnership Liaison of the Africa Policy Journal and Visibility Chair of the Africa Caucus Board. Katra previously served as Head of Secretariat of the National Council on the Administration of Justice in Kenya and worked with over 30 state and non-state agencies to formulate and review policies and strategies as well as mobilize resources for the transformation of Kenya’s justice sector. Prior to that Katra worked with various funds and programmes of the United Nations including UNWomen, UNDP, UNICEF and the United Nations Millennium Campaign.

Yasmin Belo-Osagie is a Co-Founder of She Leads Africa, a Nigeria-based social enterprise that equips female entrepreneurs in Africa with the knowledge, network, and financing needed to build and scale strong businesses. She is a management consultant focusing primarily on developing growth strategies for a number of local and international corporates. So far she has been featured in Forbes, Black Enterprise, Fox Small Business, Fast Company and Ventures Africa.

The online webinar will take place on Saturday the 26th of March at 4pm South African time, 5pm Kenya time,3pm Nigeria time and 9 am US EST time. It will run for only two hours.

YALDA Harvard is hosting an Online Conference (webinar) to discuss the effect of foreign aid on development in Africa on  Sunday, February 28th, 2016.
The online webinar will take place on Sunday the 28th of February at 4pm South African time, 5pm Kenya time, 3pm Nigeria time and 9 am US EST time. It will run for only 1.5 hours.

Goals
You do not want to miss out on this thought provoking webinar, as youth from all over the African continent and from around the world seek to address the following pertinent issues that affect our beloved African continent:

  • Identify the current foreign aid status in African nations and the different types of aid in place. Then, we will have a discussion on how the problem of aid manifests itself.
  • Discuss how these forms of aid affect local businesses and inhibit the creation of new ones, as well as the effects aid has on other fields.
  • Engage in a discussion on when aid is needed due to dire crises and when aid has to give way to local sectors after the peak of the crisis.
  • Work on possible solutions directed toward cutting rates of foreign aid dependence and promoting the local sectors.
