On Tuesday, April 25th, an anomaly occurred at the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), and Mr Dominic Omokaro- President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Library Association led a delegation of librarians to meet the Honorable Minister of State, Education. The purpose of their visit was to appeal to the government to correct the anomaly that happened at the LRCN.
The delegation appealed for the appointment of a substantive Registrar or the secondment of the Director Library services FME to oversee the affairs of the Council pending the appointment of a substantive Registrar. They also pleaded for the constitution of the board of the council to avoid cases like this in the future.
The meeting proved to be fruitful as the Minister of State, Education responded positively to their appeal. He agreed to take action to correct the anomaly and ensure the appointment of a substantive Registrar as soon as possible. He also listened to their appeal to avoid future cases by constituting the board of the council.
Furthermore, the delegation thanked the Honorable Minister for his personal intervention in approving the funds for the completion of the National Library Headquarters building in Abuja. This building is a crucial resource for librarians and researchers across Nigeria, and his approval will help make it more accessible for them.
Lastly, Mr Dominic Omokaro expressed his gratitude to the delegation for their sacrifice, love, and passion for the profession. Despite their busy schedules, these librarians made time to be a part of the delegation and appeal to the government for their cause. Their dedication to their work is admirable and deserves recognition.
In conclusion, it is encouraging to see that the government is taking steps to correct the anomaly and ensure the smooth functioning of the LRCN.
