First CARTA Librarian Fellow bags PhD in Library and Information


Oluwaseun Obasola, the first librarian CARTA  PhD Fellow graduated from premier Nigeria University. University of Ibadan on Thursday 17th November, 2017 
Obasola was the first Librarian to be awarded the prestigious Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA)  PhD fellowship in 2013.

CARTA PhD fellowship  is  multi-disciplinary program open to staff of participating institutions who are interested in conducting their PhD research on topics relevant to the broad fields of public and population health. CARTA is a donor funded project run under the Research Capacity Strengthening (RCS) division of the African Population and Health Research Center(APHRC). It is a south-south partnership with a south-north collaboration jointly led by the APHRC, Kenya, and the University of Witwatersrand (Wits). CARTA was formed to support the development of a vibrant African academy able to led world class multidisciplinary research that impacts positively on public and population health.

Dr Oluwaseun Obasola is a multi-disciplinary background in Computer Science with Economics from Obafemi Awolowo Univerisy , and Master degree in Library and Archival Science from the Univrsity of Ibadan.  She is systems Librarian, E. Latunde Odeku Medical Library, College of Medicine and University of Ibadan and Associate Lecturer, Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Chevening/British Library Research Fellow (2016-17), London, United Kingdom.
She is a Chartered Librarian (2012), a member of the Nigeria Library Association and American Library Association. She has worked in the IT sector for two years before crossing over to the librarianship profession. She is currently a doctoral student in Library and Information Science at the Library School, University of Ibadan, where she is studying the influence of the use of ICTs by Nigeria health workers for information dissemination on maternal and child health practices.

Dr. Obasola  Doctoral Thesis is titled: “Information Dissemination Methods and  Information Communication Technology Use By Health Workers in Nigerian Health Organizations as Factors Influencing Maternal And Child Health Practices”. Her research interests are health information behavior of target groups, ICT use in the provision of information, maternal and child health, use of online health information resources, library digitization and use of library. Her papers are published in both local and international journals.
