Nigerian
Library Association (NLA) Lagos Chapter Workshop began with an event-filled
opening ceremony yesterday, Monday 4th March, 2013. The event was
well attended with about 100 participants including Information specialists, Archivists,
Documentalists, Researchers, LIS
lecturers, diplomats and members of press.

The event was chaired by a prominent legal
practitioner and the president of Rotary Club, Yaba district, Barrister Peters
Akeredolu ,while Rhonda J. Watson,
Public Diplomacy Officer of US Consulate General, Lagos, also a qualified
Librarian, delivered Keynote Address on
the topic “Access to Information: Access to Knowledge: a New Perspective on
Familiar Issues” .
Over
45 participants from virtually all parts of Nigeria registered on the 1st
day of the workshop. More participants are expected.
PAPER I
Mr
Samuel Eyitayo, (FNLA), IRC Director , Whitney M. Young Jr. Information
Resource Center (IRC), Public Affairs Section, U.S. Consulate General, Lagos
delivered the First paper on “Current Trends in the Library Field: How to take
advantage of the opportunities” while Ayo Alonge handled the practical
session.
Other
facilitators expected at this workshop include:
Dr. Mrs Idowu, the University Librarian, Lagos State University, Mr
Ukoha Igwe, the University Librarian, National open University, Ms. Omowunmi Segun, a library consultant, ,
and Mr. Felix Azubike, Chairman, Information Technology Section of the NLA
