Introduction
The digital age has engendered disruptive technological changes in information creation, storage and dissemination which have created new and exciting scenarios in 21st century information management. This has become a double edged sword for libraries. On one side, information is just a click away and libraries can be done away with as seen in the closure of more than 110 libraries in United Kingdom within the last 6yrs. On the other side however, libraries are needed more than ever to bridge the digital gap, give access to information for national development and for educational and lifelong learning purposes as well as to help people wade through the proliferation of fake news. Librarians and library advocates therefore have key and urgent roles to play in educating our communities and stakeholders on the need for libraries. To be effective, librarians need to speak loud, clearly and with a unified voice. There is no doubt that in times like this, libraries need advocates to talk up the value and relevance of libraries, provide attention required to influence policies, attract the attention of government, donor agencies, elected officials, and the general public to the fact that libraries provide great learning opportunities, excellent public service and serve as invaluable contributors to their communities and the nation at large in every sphere of human existence.
This book therefore, is intended to provide information on what library advocacy is all about. It is aimed at:
· Contributing new ideas on the emerging concepts of library advocacy in Nigeria
