LRCN Gets professional Librarian as Substantive Registrar

New Appointed Registrar for LRCN Marks a Positive Step for the Nigerian Library Association and LIS Professionals"
The Nigerian Library Association (NLA) has announced an update on the recent happenings in the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN). In a statement released by the President and Chairman of Council, Dominic Omokaro, FNLA, F.IoD, FCAI, CLN, the Association shares the good news that the Minister of State for Education has come through with his promise to appoint a new Registrar for LRCN.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education has appointed Alhaji Jaafaru Wase as the substantive Registrar for LRCN, with effect from May 22, 2023. Alhaji Wase is a seasoned librarian and had been the immediate past Director in charge of Professional Services Department of the Council and one-time acting Registrar.

The Association rejoices with Alhaji Wase and extends its hand of fellowship to him in the battle to reposition the practice of Library and Information Science (LIS) in Nigeria. Members are humbly requested to continue to identify and participate in the activities of LRCN including induction ceremonies, conferences, and workshops accordingly.

The release of 26th April 2023, which had directed members to boycott LRCN's activities, is now cancelled. The Association commends the National Librarian, Prof Chinwe Anunobi, Prof Ifeoma Echezona, Barrister Ugorji, the Director, Library Services, FME, the leadership of AGOL, LIS leaders, and members for their support in resolving the issue.

In conclusion, the NLA wishes LRCN's new Registrar, Alhaji Jaafaru Wase, a successful tenure, and wishes the Federal Republic of Nigeria a long life.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Nigerian Library Association!
